The essay topic for the final Language III exam on Wednesday, August 3^rd, 2016 will be based on Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter by Jumpa Lahiri. Some possible topics are:

-      Contrast Mrs. Dutta´s and Shyamoli´s attitudes to the American culture.

-      Contrast Mrs. Dutta´s and Shyamoli´s views on the American culture.

-      Analyse possible reasons for Mrs. Dutta´s unhappiness living with her son’s family in America.

-      Analyse possible reasons for Shyamoli´s uneasiness living with her mother in law in America.

Please read the text very carefully and revise the notes on comparison and/or contrast and on cause-effect analysis. Don´t forget to review the outline layout and the connectors you should use for the different modes of development. You should also review our guidelines on introductory and concluding paragraphs.

Dear students, 

I hope you have rested during the winter holidays. I'm writing to tell you that Ms. Civit won't be available for office hours on Wednesday, July 27th.

Also, as from August 1st her office hours will be the following:

Tuesdays                   16:30 – 17:30
Wednesdays             14:30 – 16:30

Thursdays                 16:30 – 16:30

Another announcement is that on Wednesday, I won´t be available for office hours from 10:00 to 11:00 because I have a meeting with the vice-dean. I may be able to stay until 14:00, though.
