Dear students,

The essay topic for the final Language III exam on December 16th, 2015 will be based on The Namesake by Jumpa Lahiri. You should focus on Chapter 6. Some possible topics are:

- Contrast the Ratliffs’ and the Gangulis’ manner of living;

- Contrast Maxine’s and Gogol’s attitudes towards their parents;

Please read the text very carefully and revise the notes on comparison and/or contrast. Don´t forget to review the outline layout and the connectors you should use for the different modes of development.

On Tuesday, December 15th, because I have to attend a meeting from 10 to 12, I will be available for office hours from 9 to 10, and from 12 to 1 pm.

Warm regards,

Prof. A. Argerich

Comparison and Contrast Paragraphs 2015

Thursday, May 7, 2015

Dear students,

This message is for both 2014 and 2015 students. For 2014 students I´m uploading again the ppps on cause-effect analysis and comparison and contrast. The ppps have been converted to pdf files. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to downlaod them from the blog or if you'll just be able to see them on-line on the blog.

For 2015 students there´s a checklist for when you write your paragraphs, three documents in word with questions on Tactical Exercise and on The Legacy and one with very useful links on The Legacy, including a recorded reading of the short story.

Enjoy them!

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Dear Students,

This message is for 2014 students. I am uploading the material on Essay Writing we talked about in our meeting last Monday.

If I get some essay samples, I´ll share them with you. I will also upload a few essay topics for you to practice, hopefully during this weekend.

Remember that our office hours were updated on April 8th. Here´s the document again.

2015 students should wait to download the material on Essay Writing. The documents I´m uploading now will very probably be edited next semester.

We are really looking forward to working with our Language III virtual classroom. We’ve been told that in May we´ll have some training in how to use the Moodle platform.

With best wishes,
