contacting you to let you know that the make-up test (Thursday, November 5th
at 10:00 am) will be an essay based on the novel The Namesake. As the essay
topic will be about Ashima, we suggest that you read chapters 1, 2, 3, 7, and
12 very carefully. You will be asked to write the thesis statement, two or
three developmental paragraphs, and the concluding sentence. You will not have
to write introductory or concluding paragraphs. We will continue insisting on
your following the conventions for the outline we discussed in class (thesis
statement, topic senteces,
supporting information expressed by means of noun phrases, etc.).

For the colloquia
(twenty-minute oral interviews) students have to prepare eight to ten-minute oral
presentations and be ready to answer questions and to comment on the reading
material from the second semester. The colloquia will be on Thursday, November
12th at 9:00; we will let you know where we´ll meet as soon as we are assigned the classrooms.
